10 MINUTES WITH RYAN

Q: WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR TWENTY-YEAR OLD SELF?

Consistency is your best friend or your greatest nemesis depending on if you are consistently doing the habits necessary to achieve your goals.

Q: WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM FITNESS THAT HAVE SERVED YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE?

The power of consistency, community, and a holistically balanced life.

Q: WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?

I love seeing growth and improvement. I also love the simple act of going all-out on something.

Q: WHAT’S THE ONE WORKOUT YOU ALWAYS DREAD? WHAT’S THE ONE WORKOUT YOU ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO? WHY?

The Murph! So painful! I love deadlift days simply because I love the feeling of a lot of weight in my hands.

Q: WITH ANY NEW MODALITY YOU GET INTO, HOW DO YOU APPROACH IT IN ORDER TO MASTER?

Learn from the best. Do the research upfront so that I can learn from other's mistakes and not have to make them myself.

Q: HOW DO YOU EMBRACE THE “BETTER THAN YESTERDAY” MINDSET IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY?

I am always looking for "marginal gains." I try and improve my lifts by just 2.5 lbs a month which does't sound like much but it adds up after years and years.

Q: DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE FAILURE? HOW HAS THAT SET YOU UP FOR LATER SUCCESS?

Definitely! So many failures to choose from! I ran my worst half marathon of all-time a month prior to running my best marathon of all-time. That failure turned something on inside me and I started feeling amazing after that and ran 2:04 in my next marathon.

Q: WHAT’S ON YOUR FITNESS BUCKET LIST?

I love adventures so I might try out an OCR race at some point but my main goal is to keep getting stronger and bigger.
